GE Profile Washer Troubleshooting Guide

Everyone loves the comfort of doing laundry in their home as opposed to a laundrymat. Having your own washer and dryer saves the time and expense of driving to another location to wash and dry your clothes. General Electric produces the Profile line of appliances to save energy by water conservation. Some of the common washer problems, with solutions, are as follows.

Water Leaks

GE Profile Washer Troubleshooting Guide

If your washer is leaking water onto the floor, there are a few items to check for the problem. Make sure that the hot and cold water fill hoses are connected tightly to the water supply and also on the back of the washer. The drain hose also needs to be connected tightly to the washer in order to expel the water from the house. Water fill hoses should be replaced about every five years and may leak due to age. Check to see that these are not cracked or spongy.

Incorrect Water Temperature

If the washing temperature on your GE Profile washer seems to be too cold or too hot, check the fill hoses to ensure that they are fully turned on at the water supply. If one or the other is only partway on it will affect the washing temperature. Also make sure that the hot and cold are connected in the correct sequence and not backwards. See if the screens in the water fill hoses have dust or debris in them and if so, clean with a small brush. Particles may build up on the screens due to hard water deposits. Lastly, check your hot water heater to make sure it is operating correctly.

No Drainage

Typically, if the water will not drain out of the washer before adding fresh water for the rinse cycle, then the culprit is the drain hose. This hose needs to be free of kinks and bends and should exit the room no higher than six feet in order to drain properly.

Won't Operate

There are several reasons why your washer won't operate. Make sure the power cord in plugged tightly into the electrical supply and the water supply knobs are turned on. The lid should be closed to operate in the agitation and spin cycles as a safety feature. Check the circuit breaker and fuses that supply electricity to that particular plug to make sure that they are not tripped.

Clothes Residue

When using powdered detergent the water temperature in your washer has to be warmer to melt the powder than when using a liquid laundry soap. If you wash a cold cycle of delicate clothes the powder may not melt and will result in residue on the clothes. You may want to use liquid detergent in your cold water loads. Another item resulting in residue is when you wash on a smaller cycle than is needed. This doesn't allow enough water into the tub to rinse all of the detergent out.
