How to Clean a Fedders Air Conditioner Filter

Fedders air conditioner units install directly into a window or wall of the home. If you notice that the unit is not cooling properly or that it is not functioning well, a dirty filter may be the cause.

Fedders recommends that the filter be cleaned at least once a month or as often as every two weeks if the unit is run on a daily bases. Cleaning the filter only takes mere minutes.

  • Push the power button to the “Off” position on the Fedders air conditioner, and then unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

  • Locate the air filter’s top ridge, and pull it up and out of the air conditioner unit. The filter is directly behind the vent on the front of the unit.

  • Rinse off the filter with hot water, and then wash it with a mixture of soap and water.

  • Rinse the soap and water mixture off the filter, and then wave it up and down to remove excess water.

  • Slide the filter back into place, and turn the fan mode to “High.”

  • Allow the fan to run a few minutes to air-dry the filter.
