How to Clean Bonded Leather

You like the look of leather, but you don't like its cost. You found the next best thing—bonded leather. Composed of scraps of leather and polyurethane fixative pressed together, bonded leather has the look and feel of leather but lacks the endurance and strength of leather.

Things You Will Need

  • Small bowl
  • Lukewarm water
  • Latex gloves
  • 3 soft cloths
  • Leather conditioner

Bonded leather has an ultra-soft feel and a leathery texture. Like leather, bonded leather must be properly cleaned to keep it free of dust and dirt.

  • Fill a small bowl with 2 tbsps. of lukewarm water. Wear latex gloves to keep your hands from getting wet.

  • Dip a clean, soft cloth in the bowl of lukewarm water. Wring out excess water from the cloth. The cloth should be damp, not dripping with water.

  • Wipe the bonded leather gently with the damp soft cloth to remove dust, dirt and any grime buildup.

  • Dry the bonded leather with a dry soft cloth.

  • Apply a tbsp. of leather conditioner to a dry soft cloth.

  • Rub the bonded leather with the leather conditioner-infused cloth. Massage the leather conditioner into the bonded leather including any cracks and scratches.

    • Tip

    To remove spills from bonded leather, blot the spill gently with a clean white cloth as soon as possible. Do not use a colored cloth; the color may transfer to the bonded leather.

    Warning

    Do not use harsh soaps or alcohol-based products to clean bonded leather.
