How to Dispose of Sewing Needles

Even though your old sewing needles are too dull to sew with, they are still sharp enough to injure animals, children and yourself. Dispose of them properly to prevent accidents from happening. When disposing of sewing needles, or other sharp and small objects, contain them before throwing them out.

  • Gather your old sewing needles from your sewing kits or other storing areas.

  • Bundle the sewing needles together, and wrap a rubber band around the bundle to keep them together.

  • Place the bundle of sewing needles into a disposable receptacle, such as an empty takeout box or an empty makeup compact. Keeping the needles contained prevents them from poking out of the garbage bag.

  • Put the container with the needles into a garbage bag to be disposed of later.
