How to Get Washable Paint Out of the Carpet

You’ve finally chosen the perfect color for your room and found a day to paint. But your drop cloths must have shifted while you were painting, and now you’ve discovered areas where paint has gotten into the carpet.

  • Spot Shot Carpet Stain Remover

Before you start rubbing products into your carpet, take a moment to review steps that will help you remove the paint without damaging your carpet. Most likely your paint is latex, which is a water-based paint and will be fairly simple to clean up.

  • Test any product in an inconspicuous area of your carpet. Wait until it dries before you determine that it’s safe to continue.

  • Blot wet paint with a paper towel. Place folded paper towels over the area, and press until the towel remains clean.

  • Spray either Spot Shot Carpet Stain Remover or Folex Instant Carpet Spot Remover on paint stains. Be careful not to saturate the carpet, which could get into the backing. If the stain is dry, wait a minute before proceeding.

  • Gently blot with a clean wash cloth. Use either your fingers or a spoon to agitate the stain and make it easier to remove. If some stain remains, spray, blot and repeat the process.

  • When the stain is completely removed, gently blot the area with an old wet wash cloth, moving, not rubbing in all directions.

    • Tip

    The Folex product is non-toxic and will not irritate the skin. It’s also odor free and contains no petroleum products.

    Warning

    Do not rub the stain or scrub it with a brush, or you may damage the carpet fibers. Never use paint thinner on stains in your carpet.
