How to Install a Goldstar Window Air Conditioner

Most people who live in warm climates view air conditioners as a necessity. People who live in either an apartment or a small home can choose to use a window unit instead of install central air cooling. Goldstar, more commonly known as LG for Lucky Goldstar, is a well-known and trusted brand. Installation of an LG window air conditioning unit is easy. This project will take you a couple of hours.

Step 1

Line up the inside edge of one of the side curtains with the guide on the side of the LG window air conditioner. Slide the curtain down the guide. Secure it in place with the supplied screw and repeat on the other side of the air conditioner with the second side curtain.

Step 2

Open your window as wide as it will go. Measure the length of the bottom edge of the top window panel. Transfer this measurement to the supplied seal strip. Cut the seal strip to this length using a scissors.

Step 3

Peel the backing off the seal strip. Center the strip over the bottom edge of the top window panel. Push the strip in place.

Step 4

Measure the length of the bottom window sill and divide it in half. Mark this measurement onto the window sill with a pencil. Measure to the 8 inches to the left of the center line. Make a mark and then measure 8 inches to the right of the center line.

Step 5

Place one of the included L brackets on one of the 8-inch marks. The bracket should be centered on the mark. The side of the bracket with the hole should be placed behind the window sill, with its front edge pushed against the back edge of the sill. Secure the bracket in place with the supplied screw. Repeat with the second bracket on the other 8-inch mark.

Step 6

Place the LG window unit into the window opening. Make sure the back, bottom guide of the unit is against the back of the L brackets. Lower the top window panel so that it rests on top of the window unit, behind the top guide.

Step 7

Pull the side panels out until they touch the side of the window opening. Secure each panel in place with four provided screws.

Step 8

Cut the rubber sash seal to the same measurement as the seal strip. Push the seal into the space between the top of the bottom window panel and the glass in the top window panel.

Step 9

Place a third L bracket onto the top of the bottom window panel. Push it to the far left. Secure the bottom of the bracket to the top of the bottom window panel with a supplied screw. Secure the back of the bracket to the front of the top window panel with a supplied screw.

Step 10

Remove the screw on the bottom, right-hand side of the LG air conditioning unit. Place the hole of the supplied support bracket over the hole left on the right side of the unit. Use the removed screw to secure the support bracket to the air conditioner.

Step 11

Secure the bottom of the support bracket to the window sill using a supplied screw.
