How to Level a Maytag Washer

When installing a Maytag washer, good contact between the feet of the washer and the floor will help keep the machine from rocking, vibrating or making noise while in use. Located just under the bottom edge of the washer, the height of each foot can be individually adjusted. Additionally, a lock nut on the feet allows you to lock each of them in place to provide a firm foundation for the washer. With some hand tools and few minutes, you can level an uneven Maytag washer.

Step 1

Clear the location where the washer will be installed of any debris or objects that may prevent you from leveling the washer properly.

Step 2

Place the Maytag washer in its permanent location. Verify that all four feet, both front and back, are in contact with the floor's surface.

Step 3

Place the carpenter's level on top of the washer and determine if the washer is level. Measure the level from the washer's front to back and side to side.

Step 4

Position the wooden block under the front of the washer to prop the washer up, allowing you to adjust the front feet.

Step 5

Turn the base of each front foot clockwise or counterclockwise, as needed, to adjust the height of the foot to level the front of the washer.

Step 6

Remove the block and rest the washer on its front feet again. Use the level to check the machine. If needed, adjust the back feet in the same way that you adjusted the front feet.

Step 7

Repeat this process until the carpenter's level indicates that the washer is level and true. When the feet are all set, screw the lock nuts on the feet up to the washer frame and tighten them with the adjustable wrench.
