How to Make a Sprinkler Out of PVC Pipe

In most regions, it is essential to regularly water your lawn in order to keep it green and healthy. Sprinklers are available in all shapes and sizes commercially, but you can easily make your own out of PVC pipe, which allows you to customize it to fit your specific needs.

Create your own sprinkler with PVC pipe

Things You Will Need

+
  • 12-inch PVC pipes with 1-inch diameters (4)
  • 4-way PVC connector, 1-inch diameter
  • PVC end caps for 1-inch pipes (3)
  • PVC garden hose adapter for a 1-inch pipe
  • PVC primer
  • PVC glue
  • Drill and small bits
  • Garden hose

All of the materials are available at your local hardware store and the building process should only take an afternoon.

  • Prime the ends of all four PVC pipes and the inner surface of the four-way adapter. When the primer has dried, connect all four PVC pipes to the four-way connector using PVC glue.

  • Prime the other ends of the PVC pipes and the inside of the three caps. Once the primer dries, attach caps to the ends of three PVC pipes using PVC glue.

  • Prime the final PVC pipe and garden hose adapter. When they have dried, glue them together. You should now have a "+" shaped assembly of PVC pipes, capped at three ends and fitted with a hose adapter on the fourth end.

  • Allow all of the glue to dry for a few hours.

  • Drill small holes every inch along the PVC pipes. Vary the angles of the holes; don't have them all sticking straight up.

  • Screw the garden hose to the sprinkler and spigot. Place the sprinkler in your yard and turn on the water.

  • Tip

Smaller holes will increase water pressure and spray the water higher. Begin with these and increase the hole size gradually if the pressure is too much.
