How to Properly Wash Nylon Flags in a Washing Machine

Dirty nylon flags do not send a good message. Like other fabrics, flags can collect dust and grime, especially if they hang outside or in a dusty environment. You can wash your nylon flags in your washing machine -- all you need is some ordinary laundry detergent and a clean place for the flag to air dry.

Things You Will Need

+
  • Dry cloth or towel
  • Stain remover
  • Sponge
  • Warm water
  • Landry detergent
  • Clothesline, drying rack or flat surface

No special equipment, chemicals or skills are needed.

  • Place the flag on a flat surface and wipe off any loose dust and dirt with a dry cloth or towel.

  • Apply a stain remover to a damp sponge, and wipe off any stains such as bird feces or other caked-on substances. You may need to re-wet the sponge in warm water to remove any deep stains.

  • Place the nylon flag in your washing machine.

  • Fill the washing machine with cold water, and add the recommended amount of laundry detergent for delicate cleaning.

  • Set the washer to a delicate cycle, and start the machine.

  • Dry the flag on a clothesline, drying rack or by laying it on a clean dry surface. Do not place the nylon flag in a dryer.

  • Tip

Check the flag for any loose threads or rips so the flag doesn't unravel in the washing machine.

    Warning

If your nylon flag is old (more than 40 years) or you are unsure of its age or condition, seek professional advice on washing the flag.
