Millions of people sit in office chairs every day for long periods of time. Sitting in an office chair that isn’t properly adjusted can be quite uncomfortable. • Decide the best possible height that makes the office chair comfortable for you. Your feet should rest comfortably on the floor, and your thighs and calves should be at a 90-degree angle when sitting.

  • Determine the type of office chair you have. Newer chair models have a lever underneath the chair that can be easily reached to adjust the chair up or down. Older chair models will require you to rotate the chair counterclockwise or clockwise to adjust the height of the chair.

  • Consider the height of your desk. Most desks come equipped with a keyboard tray, and you will need to adjust your chair so that you can type comfortably. Even if you have the standard desk, adjusting your chair height will be necessary.

  • Adjust the height of your office chair. Sitting in front of your desk, pull the lever up to raise your office chair, if your chair is equipped with a lever. If your chair isn’t equipped with a lever, stand up and turn the chair clockwise to raise the chair and counterclockwise to lower the chair. Sit in the chair to be sure that it’s the correct height for your comfort.
