How to Remove a Drain Pump From a Whirlpool Washing Machine

Unplug the washer and remove the mounting screws to the top console and open the console. It's on hinges.

Disconnect the wires going to the lid switch and use your screwdriver to remove the two clips that attach the cabinet to the back of the washer.

Tilt the top of the cabinet forward and pull it away from the washer.

Remove the clips holding the pump to the motor shaft. Put your bucket under the pump and take the clamps off the hoses.

Pull the pump toward you to remove it from the motor shaft.

Unplug the washer. Remove the three screws along the bottom of the toe panel and pull the panel forward to remove it.

Put your bucket or towels under the drain pump. Open the pump slowly so the water doesn't all spill out at once. If you have a wet/dry vacuum, you can connect it to the drain hose to remove the water from the washer before opening the pump.

Open the door covering the pump wiring and disconnect the wiring.

Remove the two drain lines from the pump.

Remove the screw that attaches the pump to the washer frame and pull out the pump.
