How to Remove Chalkboard Paint From Brick

Chalkboard paint, once applied and dried, works like a regular chalkboard. Users can draw on the paint with ordinary chalk (white or colored) and erase their work with a chalkboard eraser or a cloth. After the chalkboard paint has dried, cleaning it with a wet washcloth is a snap. A popular place to use chalkboard paint is on the wall of a child’s room. If you place the chalkboard paint on a brick wall, the removal process is quite simple.

Things You Will Need

+
  • Paint remover kit
  • Water hose
  • Sponge
  • Purchase a paint remover kit that contains a gel remover. If you cannot find the paint remover in gel form, paste form will work as well. How you apply the gel will depend on the brand. Spraying or wiping the gel onto the brick is common. Apply the paint remover to the chalkboard paint.

  • Place the sheets of paper or fabric that came with your paint remover kit over the gel. Allow it to set according to package directions. Depending on your product, the paper may need to set for up to 24 hours.

  • Pull the paper away to remove the paint. It does not matter which way you pull.

  • Wash the brick with a water hose and allow it to air-dry. If the brick is indoors, wipe it down with a wet sponge.
