How to Remove Marks From a Ceramic Sink

Ceramic sinks are available in a large variety of sizes, colors and designs to accommodate individual styles. While ceramic sinks require minimal maintenance, they can accumulate stains from hard water deposits and soap scum. Regular cleaning loosens dirt and various marks that cause ceramic sinks to appear dingy.

  • Warm water
  • 2 tbsp. liquid dish-washing detergent
  • Soft dishcloth
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/3 cup household ammonia
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 7 cups water
  • Plastic spray bottle
  • Nylon scrub brush
  • Terrycloth towel

The longer stains remain on ceramic, the harder they are to remove. Basic cleaning solutions remove most stains from ceramic sinks.

  • Fill a plastic bowl with warm water. Add 2 tbsp. of liquid dish-washing detergent to the water to create a soapy solution. Thoroughly mix the solution.

  • Dampen a soft dishcloth in the soapy solution. Wipe the ceramic surface with the dishcloth to remove loose dirt and grime. Thoroughly clean the surface before focusing on hard-water marks.

  • Thoroughly rinse the sink with water. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/3 cup of household ammonia, 1/4 cup of white vinegar, and 7 cups of water in another plastic bowl.

  • Fill a plastic spray bottle with the solution. Spray the solution directly onto any hard-water marks or stains. Keep the solution on the marks for 15 minutes.

  • Scrub the marks with a nylon scrub brush until they are completely removed. Spray the marks with more solution if necessary.

  • Thoroughly rinse the sink with water. Wipe the sink dry with a terrycloth towel.

    • Tip

    You can substitute lemon juice for the white vinegar. Remove ink marks with pure household ammonia.
