To assist you with closing the dishwasher door, and ensure that it doesn't slam open, a spring is connected to the rear of the door. After prolonged use, this spring may stretch or break, requiring replacement. Replacing the spring is a quick do it yourself task, and can be accomplished without having to call a repair technician.

  • Disconnect the power to the dishwasher by turning off the breaker in your fuse box.

  • Locate the two screws securing the dishwasher kick-plate to the front of the unit. The screws will be located either on the front or on the top of the kick-plate.

  • Remove the two screws. Remove the kick-plate.

  • Locate the old spring, located on the right-side of the dishwasher. If the spring is still attached, note the hole in which it is installed.

  • Unclip the spring from the door pulley and from the spring hole, located on the bottom of the dishwasher.

  • Clip the long end of the new spring onto the door pulley,. Clip the other end onto the hole that the old spring was attached to.

  • Open and close the dishwasher door. If the door moves too quickly or too slowly, move the spring to a different spring hole. Test the door again.

  • Replace the kick-panel. Re-secure using the two screws that were originally removed.

  • Restore power to the dishwasher to complete the installation.
