How to Repair a Single Handle on a Delta Faucet

A delta faucet is well designed and made to last a long time. However, problems can occur in the faucet head causing leaks and malfunctions, such as no hot water flow. To repair a single handle on a Delta faucet, most of the unit needs to be disassembled.

Repairing Delta faucets involves a little plumbing knowledge.

  • Ball valve or cartridge
  • Seat washers
  • New handle screw

A few basic tools and parts will revive this faucet to like new condition.

  • Turn the water valve under the faucet to closed to stop incoming water from entering the faucet.

  • Remove the handle from the faucet head by loosening the attaching screw at the base of the faucet handle with an Allen wrench. Slide the handle off of the fixture.

  • Remove the faucet's cap assembly, which is located under the handle on the head of the faucet. Twist it to the left with a pair of pliers to remove this cap.

  • Remove the bonnet cap from the ball valve or cartridge, then remove the ball valve or cartridge and any gaskets inside the faucet head. Note that some faucets have a ball valve, while others have a cartridge. If your faucet has a cartridge, also remove the seat washers from the holes inside the faucet. There are different components inside the different types of Delta faucets, so remove everything and keep careful track of them.

  • Replace the inner parts to the faucet, including the ball valve or cartridge and seat washers, bonnet cap and cap assembly. Use only brand new parts made for your particular model of Delta faucet. Reattach the handle to the faucet by sliding it onto the ball valve lever or cartridge stem. Screw the handle to the lever or stem with a new retaining screw.
