How to Replace the Light Switch in a Mobile Home

Replacing a light switch in a mobile home is the same as replacing a light switch in a traditional home. Both types of homes use the same type of switch, so it is not necessary to look for a switch made specifically for a mobile home. A faulty light switch is easy to replace on your own, without having to call in a professional. It is also a very inexpensive project.

Step 1

Turn off the breaker that supplies power to the light switch. This is done from the main breaker box outside the home.

Step 2

Remove the screws on the front of the light switch plate. Remove the cover and set it aside.

Step 3

Take out the screws that are holding the switch inside the light switch box. Pull the switch a few inches away from the box.

Step 4

Use small pieces of tape to label the wires. This will help you remember how to properly connect each wire to its respective screw.

Step 5

Loosen the screws with a screwdriver. Use needle nose pliers to pull the wires away from the screws.

Step 6

Loosen the screws on the back of the new light switch and place the appropriate wires under them. Tighten the screws down onto the wires.

Step 7

Place the switch back inside the box and place the two screws in place and tighten them. Replace the switch plate and attach with screws.

Step 8

Turn the power to the switch back on an test it to make sure it is working.
