How to Wash Flokati Rugs

Flokati rugs have been handwoven from 100% wool and processed in a water bath to create the rich fluffy appearance. These rugs are maintained by regular brushing or raking to keep pile fluffy and attractive. Natural wool will repel dirt, but on those occasions when the rug must be washed it is possible to do it at home without damaging the rug.

  • Fill the bath tub to 6 inches with cool water. Add a good quality detergent designed for wool. Do not use bleach or other chemicals on your rug. Do not use hot water as this will cause the rug to shrink.

  • Add the Flokati rug to the water and agitate gently by hand. When soil has been removed, drain the water and rinse the rug with cool clean water.

  • Hang to dry in an area that is out of direct sunlight. Sunlight will damage your rug.
